| Water
as a key resource
|
|
|
| Water
is an essential resource which we depend on for our very survival.
The world's water resources, fresh water in particular, are becoming
increasingly stressed as populations are growing and the demand
for food and material goods increases. While many of the most serious
water resource problems are in arid regions of the developing world,
the industrialised countries are also seriously using and depleting
their own water resources. All countries have an important role
to play in developing suitable strategies to ensure the quality
and availability of this precious resource for future generations. |

| Goals
|
|
|
| The
course aims to guide the participants in applying sound methods
such as decision analysis and stakeholder involvement techniques
contributing to the development and implementation of sustainable
water management practices. In addition, the participants will acquire
insight into specific issues related to river management, which
is the special focus of this course. The techniques and methods
being tested can be equally well applied to other fields of water
management. |
